Happy fall! As the season starts to change, we look forward to working in the woods in the cooler weather. Here are our October park-keeping sessions:
Saturday October 4, 10:30 – noon. We will maintain the new planting beds in the ravine and push back invasive plants. If there’s time, we will tag tiny oak trees for later transplanting. Meet at the turnaround on the York Pond access road. Tools needed: loppers, clippers, pointed shovels
Wednesday October 15, 1:30-3:00. Blackstone Field maintenance (across from the Narragansett Boat Club (2 River Drive, Providence, RI 02906). Time to ready the new pollinator bed for the next round of seeding! We will also trim sprouts around young crabapple trees, “rescue prune” bittersweet-covered trees, and do a little trail work if time allows. Meet at Tools needed: loppers, clippers.
Here is some general information about Park-keeping.
• You are welcome to drop-in for all or part of the event. That said, if you think you can come please let me know—it helps with the planning.
• The intensity of the work varies within each event, unless otherwise noted. You can choose whether you want lighter or heavier work!
• We strongly recommend the application of an EPA approved-repellent.
• We recommend you wear long pants and closed-toe shoes, and bring water.
• We can provide gloves and tools, although it helps if you can bring some.
• We can provide tools, if you’d like to bring your own we will use: pruners, loppers, weeders.
• For updates, including work site maps and weather-related changes, visit our web and FB pages.
Email Carrie with any questions. We hope to see you soon in the parks!
