On February 8th, a lieutenant from the Brook Street Precinct joined two BPC members at Hockey Pond to see the damage done by an unknown man to wildlife habitat. Over a period of several months, a couple of people have caught sight of a person with pruning sheers and an herbicide backpack cutting brambles at the edge of the pond. Below is some of the evidence.
Destroying habitat in the Conservation District is illegal. It may be that this person doesn’t realize the considerable harm he’s causing. This clearing activity is not only destroying habitat but also worsening erosion problems at the pond.
