Moon, Music and Telescopes

On Sunday, October 5, right on schedule–around 5:50 pm–the moon rose over the Seekonk River.
It was the end of a clear, warm day. As the moon rose, a band in Blackstone Field, Matunuck Wind, played a musical welcome. A crowd of people gathered on the shore helped the band welcome the moon. The crowd included several astronomers from the Skyscrapers, who shared their telescopes and knowledge with the crowd. Everyone had a chance to see the moon in startling detail, some for the first time.
That was it—a moon rising over the Seekonk, mellow music, and people taking the time to savor it all.
If you missed it, the moon will be rising again over the Seekonk in the early evening this week—big, bright, and beautiful.
