Water Walks

Please join us for a walking tour exploring the 400-acre watershed that drains into York Pond and the Seekonk River. The tour will be led by Rick Richards of the Seekonk River Alliance, Carrie Drake of the Blackstone Parks Conservancy in collaboration with Emily Vogler, Ben Bailey and Amy Whitesides of Commonplace Landscape and Planning. The tour is the first part of a year-long NBEP-funded project designed to increase public understanding of watershed processes, stormwater management, and opportunities for ecological restoration within the York Pond watershed.

Along the way, we’ll uncover the history of the waterways buried beneath the streets of Providence’s East Side and learn how these hidden water systems connect to current efforts to manage stormwater, improve water quality, and reduce flooding.

We will start the walk at 1pm at the Blackstone Park Ravine, near the intersection of Grotto Ave. and Irving Ave.
