- We are planning two Park-Keeping sessions for September:
- Thursday Sept 17, 9:30 – 11:00. Knotweed (and more) autumn tidy. Our volunteers did such a great job removing knotweed this season that re-sprouting is at a record low! We will work at two locations in the North Section to wipe out the re-sprouts and do a few other seasonal tasks:9:30 – 10:25: north end of Gulf Rd – remove knotweed, cut bittersweet and greenbrier to free trees, armor slope with branches, install trail steps.10:30 – 11:00: Gulf/Irving – remove knotweed, cut bittersweet.Bring if you can: gloves, lopper, hand pruner, small shovel. We will provide other tools and gloves as needed.Saturday Sept 19, 9:30 – 11:00. South Section edge improvements: We will trim shrubs and remove invasive plants to spruce up the Park’s edge along Paterson St.Meet along Paterson St near Rhode Island Ave. Bring if you can: gloves, hand pruner, lopper, shovel, small pruning saw. We will provide other tools and gloves as needed.
We work spring through fall in Blackstone Park Woods and on Blackstone Boulevard. Our volunteers fix trails, care for trees and shrubs and plant new ones, protect steep slopes from damaging storms, and more. Join us once or often as we spend time outdoors, get some exercise, and share the joy of contributing to these special places.
