We Are Hiring: Seasonal Park Monitor

Duration: June – August

Hours and Pay: Up to 4 hours per week (Flexible). $25/hr

Location: Blackstone Park Conservation District, Providence

Are you passionate about urban forestry and protecting local green spaces? The Blackstone Parks Conservancy is seeking an observant, nature-loving Seasonal Conservation Monitor to help us care for the Blackstone Park Conservation District this summer. This is a flexible opportunity for students, aspiring ecologists, or local nature enthusiasts to gain hands-on experience in park stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor & Assess: Walk the park trails weekly to observe and document the condition of trails, plants, and park structures.

  • Report: Provide weekly updates to the Park Committee on maintenance needs, ecological concerns, and work accomplished.

  • Support Volunteers: Assist our volunteers with light maintenance, such as hand pruning and invasive plant removal.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Ability to walk park trails independently and work outdoors in summer weather conditions.

  • Reliable communication skills for reporting to the committee.

  • Basic knowledge of local plant species and conservation principles (or a willingness to learn).

  • The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in forest ecology, conservation, or environmental science. Native plant knowledge a plus.
